Statement from Sam Bass

CONCORD, N.C. (October 4, 2017) – “Since releasing my statement in April, the outpouring of support that I’ve received for my health and my business have been overwhelming. I wanted to once again reach out to my friends, fans and supporters, to update everyone who has been asking where I am and how I’m doing.”1658248_533563713426475_481211479_o

“The unexpected diagnosis of end-stage kidney failure in January sent my life in a direction I never imagined. Following an auction in April and race weeks in May,

I, regretfully, closed the doors to my gallery to focus on getting well for myself, my family and my career.”

“A lot has transpired over the summer. Aside from moving, it has not been easy to take on a rigorous dialysis schedule, plus keep up with the multitude of doctors’ appointments and medical tests required to clear me for a kidney transplant, or hopefully, a kidney/pancreas transplant. I pray sharing my journey will inspire others to press on through similar circumstances.”

“One of the things I have enjoyed the most about my career over the years is the people interaction. While the gallery provided so many of those opportunities, I plan to keep my work visible and spend time with the fans for right now at special events, personal appearances and pop-up displays. Every day, I continue to draw, paint and design from my home studio, which I appreciate for being able to spend extra time around my kids.”

“A new website will launch soon featuring my art from years past and new releases as they come off the drawing table. I am sincerely excited about getting out to Charlotte Motor Speedway to visit with my NASCAR family and friends whom I’ve missed for most of the 2017 season. That being said, now seemed the perfect time to answer the questions and dismiss the rumors that I have retired my paintbrushes. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

“Please continue to keep up with me through social media, email, or believe it or not, they even still deliver snail mail! I’m very appreciative for all of the caring thoughts, cards, letters and donations that I have received, which have encouraged me through this challenging time. I’m certainly looking forward to the next chapter as it unfolds in coming months.”
